The Verdict

Octolens is the strongest pick for B2B SaaS and developer-facing teams because its coverage set (Reddit, X, LinkedIn, GitHub, Hacker News, Stack Overflow, plus newsletters and podcasts) matches where B2B buyers actually ask category questions. Brand24 is the better fit when the primary job is brand and PR reporting with sentiment and share-of-voice, not developer-community capture. Awario is the budget entry point at $29/month for teams that mainly need broad web and Reddit coverage. Mentionkit is the leanest action-focused pick when the workflow is finding useful posts, drafting a reply, and moving on.

A small B2B marketing team doesn't have a full-time community manager sitting in Reddit, X, LinkedIn, and Hacker News all day. The getting-customers job an AI social listening tool has to do is narrow: catch the conversations where a prospect is asking about your category, filter out the noise, and route the useful ones somewhere a founder or marketer will actually check.

We evaluated four tools marketed at SMB and small-team budgets (Octolens, Brand24, Awario, and Mentionkit) against the same criteria: which public platforms they cover, how they filter noise into buyer-intent signal, what the entry plan actually includes, and what the true monthly cost looks like for a small B2B team. This is a documentation-and-pricing comparison against each vendor's official pages, not a hands-on benchmark; scores reflect that disclosed desk rubric.

The test suite · 5 measured metrics

Each tool was scored against its current official pricing page and product documentation. Where a vendor didn't publish a number on its own site, we didn't state a number. Weightings: source coverage 25%, buyer-intent filtering 25%, plan limits at entry 20%, workflow and integrations 15%, entry monthly cost 15%.

Source coverage

We inventoried each vendor's official platform list and scored how many of the six platforms where B2B buyers most often ask category questions (Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Hacker News, GitHub, and YouTube) are supported natively, plus adjacent B2B-relevant sources (newsletters, podcasts, Stack Overflow, Bluesky). Weighted 25%.

Buyer-intent filtering

Scored on whether the vendor's official docs describe AI relevance scoring, importance flagging, or intent classification, and how much of that filtering is available on the entry paid plan. A tool that surfaces every keyword hit into a firehose scored lower than one that classifies posts by relevance before alerting. Weighted 25%.

Entry plan limits

Recorded the keyword count, mention volume, update frequency, and seat count on each vendor's lowest paid plan as published on the official pricing page in August 2026. A plan that included real-time or hourly updates scored higher than one capped at 12-hour or daily refresh. Weighted 20%.

Workflow and integrations

Scored the delivery destinations (email, Slack, webhooks, API, MCP) and any built-in workflow for acting on a mention (assignment, reply drafting, reporting) as documented on the vendor's own product pages. Weighted 15%.

Entry monthly cost

Effective monthly cost of the lowest paid plan at the vendor's annual billing rate, taken from the official pricing page. Normalized so a lower entry cost scores higher. Reported alongside the quality score, not folded into it. Weighted 15%.

Octolens
Octolens
The B2B SaaS-focused pick with the widest developer-community coverage and AI relevance scoring on every alert.
84

Octolens is an API-first social listening tool built for B2B and developer-facing brands. Its official product pages list monitoring across X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Bluesky, GitHub, YouTube, Stack Overflow, Hacker News, DEV.to, plus newsletters and podcasts, with AI relevance scoring, Slack and email delivery, webhooks, and an MCP server on every plan. The trade-offs are keyword and mention caps at the entry tier and a higher entry price than the two cheapest tools in this ranking; the agency-page pricing lists Pro at $199 per month for 15,000 mentions and 10 keywords, with Scale at $599 per month for 50,000 mentions and 40 keywords.

79

Brand24 is a broad brand and media monitoring platform with sentiment analysis, share-of-voice, and white-label reporting. Its official pricing page lists five plans; the Individual plan at $199 per month billed annually covers 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions per month, one user, and 12-hour update intervals, and the Business plan at $599 per month adds 25 keywords, 100,000 mentions, real-time updates, and unlimited users. 76

Awario is a web and social monitoring tool priced for solo marketers and small teams. Mentionkit
Mentionkit
The leanest action-focused pick when the workflow is find a useful post, act on it, and move on.
72

Mentionkit is a social monitoring tool built around finding relevant public conversations and acting on them fast. It positions itself as an action-focused tool when the daily job is a reply workflow rather than a reporting and sentiment dashboard. The trade-off is breadth and reporting: it doesn't attempt the wide media-monitoring surface Brand24 covers.

Strengths

  • AI relevance scoring and auto-tagging to prioritize buying-intent conversations, per the vendor's homepage
  • Comment and DM response options built into the mention view

Analysis

The ranking above reflects each vendor’s published pricing and product documentation as of August 2026, not a hands-on measurement of alert accuracy on identical keywords. Every quality score is tied to a specific claim on the vendor’s own site; where a vendor didn’t publish a number, no number was assumed.

What the scores actually measure

Source coverage carries the most weight alongside buyer-intent filtering because the getting-customers job for a small B2B team isn’t “monitor everything.” It’s “catch the conversations where a prospect in our category is asking a question we can answer.” A tool that covers 15 platforms but doesn’t classify posts by relevance sends more noise than a small team can act on. A tool that scores relevance on every alert but only covers X sends fewer conversations than a small B2B team needs to see.

Where the field separates

The clearest separator at the top of the table is developer-community coverage. Octolens documents native monitoring for GitHub, Hacker News, Stack Overflow, and DEV.to, which are the places B2B software buyers ask category questions in public. Brand24 and Awario cover more of the general web and get stronger reporting per dollar, but they don’t match Octolens’s depth on the platforms where B2B SaaS buyers actually congregate. Mentionkit’s homepage describes coverage across 7+ platforms with AI scoring and auto-tagging focused on buying-intent conversations, in exchange for a leaner reporting surface.

Cost and workflow

Entry cost is reported alongside the quality score and kept out of it because a founder optimizing for $29 a month and a marketing lead optimizing for board-ready reports are answering different questions. Awario’s $29 monthly Starter is the cheapest published entry point in this group and includes the highest raw mention allowance per dollar, in exchange for a workflow that leaves scoring and reply drafting to the operator. Octolens’s $199 Pro entry is the highest in the group, but it ships AI relevance scoring, Slack, webhooks, and MCP on every plan, which is the workflow surface a small B2B team will build a real reply cadence on top of.

How this ranking fits with the rest of the stack

Social listening tools catch the conversation. They don’t identify the anonymous account behind a company visiting your pricing page, and they don’t run the cold outreach that follows a warm reply. Two neighboring rankings on this site are worth reading in the same sitting: our ranking of AI lead discovery platforms for small B2B businesses covers the tools that surface buying-intent accounts before a keyword hit ever exists, and the head-to-head between RB2B and Warmly covers what happens after a prospect lands on your site. For the outbound leg after a public reply turns into a private conversation, our ranking of AI SDR and autonomous outbound platforms for small B2B teams covers the tools that pick up where a listening tool stops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What's the cheapest AI social listening tool for a small B2B team in 2026?

Among the tools in this ranking, Awario has the lowest published entry price at $29 per month billed annually on its Starter plan, which includes 30,000 new mentions per month, one team member, and unlimited keywords per topic. Both Awario and Mentionkit are meaningfully cheaper than Brand24's Individual plan at $199 per month billed annually and Octolens's Pro plan at $199 per month for 15,000 mentions.

Q.Which social listening tool is best for B2B SaaS and developer-tool companies?

Octolens is the best fit for B2B SaaS and developer-facing teams because its official coverage list includes Reddit, X, LinkedIn, GitHub, Hacker News, Stack Overflow, YouTube, Bluesky, DEV.to, newsletters, and podcasts, with AI relevance scoring and Slack, email, webhook, and MCP delivery on every plan. Brand24 and Awario are stronger on general web and PR coverage than on developer communities.

Q.Do these tools cover LinkedIn conversations?

Coverage varies. Octolens documents LinkedIn monitoring for public posts, company updates, and comments with a daily refresh cadence. Brand24's pricing-page comparison table lists LinkedIn among its supported sources. If LinkedIn is the primary job, verify each vendor's current LinkedIn coverage on their own docs before buying.

Q.Is Brand24 worth $199 per month for a small B2B team?

Brand24's Individual plan at $199 per month annual is worth the spend when the buyer needs polished reports, sentiment analysis, and share-of-voice across a broad media surface. For a small B2B team whose main job is catching buyer-intent posts on Reddit and Hacker News and replying, a cheaper tool like Awario at $29 per month covers the getting-customers workflow at a fraction of the cost.
